This is the first National Park established in 1973 A.D covering around 932 square kilometer and touching three district Chitawan,Makwanpur and Nawalparasi at the time of King Mahendra Bir Bikram Shah in inspection of environmentalist Karna Shakya. This national park is registered in World Heritage Site in 1984. In this national park their are 650 species of birds , 68 species of mammals, 126 species of fish have been recorded. Animal found in this national park are Royal Bengal tiger, common leopard, sloth bear, one horn Rhinocerous, Wild elephant, Arna(wild water buffalo), spotted deer, Hod deer, swamp deer, wild boar, Barking deer, samber deer, Ghariyal(Fish eater crocodile), Muggar(Asian aligator), Python(Indian rock python) etc. Tharu communities were forced to relocate from their traditional lands to this national park area in order to protect and settle over this area.
